Windows Phone 7–Custom ringtones anyone?

Today, we (ChevronWP7, and if you haven’t yet figured it out, the title comes from Stargate), are releasing our first homebrew application for Windows Phone 7, with FULL source code.

What you need is .NET 4.0 before you can open the app.  You can get the client profile installer from here.

What this application allows you to do is select a couple of WMA files (MUST be WMA files for the time being), and the app will package those up into the XAP file, and ask you to deploy it to the device.  If you don’t have the SDK installed (sorry we don’t have a custom app installer ready just yet), you’ll need to install it from here.  We endeavour to have one up soon. ChevronWP7 Ringtone (3)

Once you’ve done that, and clicked “Build ringtone XAP”.  The application will start windows explorer to the folder where the app was executed from.  This folder should contain the “ChevronWP7.Ringtone.xap” file.

Now start the “Application Deployment” tool at “C:Program Files (x86)Microsoft SDKsWindows Phonev7.0ToolsXAP DeploymentXapDeploy.exe”.  Navigate to the location where the .xap file is located and select it.  Then click on “deploy”.

And you’re done.

Here are the files required, unzip them and run ChevronWP7.RingtoneInstaller.exe

NB: Next blog post will contain the source.

How do you remove the custom ringtones from the phone when you don''''t need them anymore?

01 Dec, 2010 02:41 PM

This is huge news and should have more than 3 replies. I can''''t think this team enough for breaking us out of this monotony of Microsoft default ringtones and simultaneously releasing the first every homebrew app for WP7. Congrats.

Getting an "0x89731813" error. I don''''t know why, because I already jailbraked my phone via your tool, and I actually deploy my own programs via VS2010.

What does that code actually mean? Do you have any solutions?

Oh hey Chris. Just wanted to let you know I was also able to load 44.1khz wma files as ringtones as well as the stated 48khz.

I Installed 2 music parts , after encode them the wma 48KHz. When taping on the chevronwp7 ringtone I see message "ringtones added" , but couldn''''t find them anywhere , where should I find and set this music to be my phone ring and alarm/alerts rings ?

Just awesome, guys!

BTW - it consistently crashed on startup for me. I had copied it to a folder under Program Files, and even though the folder was writable, Windows wouldn''t let it write to it. Unzipping and running from a folder under my Downloads folder worked a treat though.

Many thanks,

Geoff

I have tried, but am unable to use the Chevron application to create customised ringtones for my HTC HD7, despite downloading the SDK & .NET 4, the program always fails to run.

Can anyone shed any light on this ?

The boring ringtones on this phone are driving me crazy, and the ones offered in the Marketplace appear to be albums only !!

Help !!!

Hiya. I have the ringtones on my my phone (very easy), but i was wondering if there is a way to use the tones i put as text tones? when i open up "New text message" i still just see the "Alert 1-10" generic sounds. Is there a way to add the tones to this list?

Everytime I try to load the .XAP file to my device, I receive an error message saying that my phone is not connected to the computer. Any input on this? I have a HTC HD7 on the T-Mobile Network!

Having the same Problem ad Jasmine, go to load the XAP file and then a message saying that the phone is not connected and there is trouble communicating with the device.

Is the update that windows have recently released for the WP7 platform blocked the access this application requires to function correctly?

any response is appreciated.

When trying to deploy the xap file, I got this error:

Application launch failed. Ensure that the device screen is unlocked and device is developer unlocked. For details on developer unlock, visit http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=195284

The link wasn't helpful. Any suggestions?

Hi there,

Ok, so I'm rather smartphone/computer retarded when it comes to this stuff. Can someone please. please, please give me a STEP-BY-STEP-FOR-DUMMIES tutorial on how to DL all this and get custom ringtones.

I've read through all the posts, but feel more confused than anything.

I have an HTC Trophy just purchased last week.

Thanks!

I can't get the songs to play at all. Whenever they are added to my list it lets me pick them, but then it won't play them. Whenever someone calls it switches to 01 Pure. Any help?
