What’s in your 7392 Windows Phone Update

So, we’ve woken up to the “SSL” update this morning.  Only to see MSFT have included a few more fixes than just SSL cert updates.

How the update process works

Once you’ve got an update pending, Zune will download the appropriate CAB files to “patch” your device.

Now these cab files, they aren’t full files.  They’re differential updates, which are merged with the existing DLL’s on the phone.  They’re then re-signed with the certificate specified in the DSM

There are two types of CAB files.  There are language packs, and software packs.

diff-7.0.7390.0-7.0.7392.0-armv7-retail-microsoft.pks_3a3a18fff5252d787974a169b115f8b428c0566c.cab
diff-7.0.7390.0-7.0.7392.0-armv7-retail-microsoft.lang_0410.pks_664864f39e89201620c48f6e6393123af232ae82.cab

As the language pack name denotes “0410”, this is an Input locale, typically the language(s) installed and available to change in the Keyboard settings. http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd744319(WS.10).aspx

So if you’ve got multiple INPUT languages available on your phone, Zune will download all the appropriate DIFF language updates.

I won’t go into how the MUI files work on Windows Phone unless people want me to Smile

What’s in your update

Managed Assembly Updates (IL diff changes to come)

Was about to ask, are you sure the SSL certs are in there too? :p

Thanks for detailing this, because Microsoft never will.

Excellent work Chris! We'll make sure to share this info on the show this week.

I'm guessing there are some unannounced bug fixes in here as well. Those updated assemblies seem to imply that.

Can I use the ChevronWP7 Updater to update to 7392?

Question for you Chris:

Does it allow you to choose US Keyboard? I hate that Telstra have lumped us with the UK Keyboard not the US one, which means one extra tap to choose the "$" sign.

(In Australia we use the US keyboard configuration not the UK one.)

Hey.

As mentioned in my mail i have problems to update my Mozart to 7392, after using the NoDo Updater to get NoDo.

Can you please contact me?

thanks!

I didn't use your tool to force the 7390 update, but I did use the "Hungarian VPN" to get it. This morning Zune notifies me of the 7392 update and so far no problems.

Would really like to know what else (apart from the certificate-related fixes) was put in.

Chris, successfully updated Telstra Mozart 7, Walshed, to 7392, smooth as silk. One thing though, I had also applied the registry fix to try the other method you had proposed before you released the chevron updater, the timed one. the one that didn't leave the carrier ID blank. Any way, great work :)

UK, HTC HD7, O2 unlocked on Vodafone updated Nodo using the NoDo Updater, so now have a "Walshed" Phone :-)

Backup works, after phone gets restarted, update hangs with the "80180048" error. Tried 4 times, wondered at first if it was because I didn't have enough juice in the battery.

Phone alerted me to the update this morning. Having previously used your Walshie update, I get an error that it can't complete and has reverted to a backup error 80180048.

The windows phone support tool cannot recover it either, eek!!

Anything you can help us with Chris?

Is it just me or does the auto focus work faster in the camera app? Even without having to push the camera button a little in, it focuses really fast and really nicely. Could be wrong though... Could've always been like this... lol

Using an HTC HD7 by the way.

Okay, so whenever I connect my phone to the computer and start zune it now asks me to unlock my device. That never happened before the update. I don't know if 7392 is the reason though, since my phone was "walshed" and I flashed a rom (signed) to fix it.

I installed the update hoping that it will give me the option to change the keyboard language but is not the case.

I tought that it will add/update your keyboard language. The HTC HD7 just has the English US keyboard language.

Some guys in xda forum reported that this update 7932 actually causing battery drain. Can anyone confirm?

I have a new HD7 which immediately updated to 7932, so I don't have a comparison with older version (battery performance)... All I can say is battery seems very bad, and the phone is kind of hot after a just little use.

On my LG Optimus 7 - it did the update 5o 7.0.7392 a couple of days ago. Ever since then Zune will not recognize the phone. I tried installing Zune on a different computer - same result. When I connect the cable, both Windows 7 (desktop) and the phone ping. The phone charges, but Zune does not fire up automatically. When I bring it up manually, it says 'no device connected'.

Any suggestions on how I can fix this?

Thanks
